Bio

Though Rory lives in Hamilton (Ontario), he writes as a maritimer stuck in a virtual 1960s (or near that time frame) time warp.

The proliferation of communication devices, the ease that one can send information, has shifted the dynamics of personal contact away from the face-to-face intimacy of the past to a confusing mishmash of cell phone calls, text messages and chat windows, all of which strip words and their response to mere shadows of what they could be.

Imagine Rick, seemingly minding his business in the corner of his bar, texting his devotion to Ilsa while Victor sips a martini right beside her. Or, Rick might send Victor a message that Captain Renault wants to see him at the Vichy office.

So, I stick to the past. But not always. A thoroughly modern novel is coming, but only after I finish final edits on Mrs. Devlin part two (called The Framing of Mrs. Devlin).
